Statement
I was born in the Philippines and raised in Malaysia, Indonesia and Scotland.
I have always loved to draw, it is a constant challenge. It is simply a desire to record and express my feelings about the world around us.
My work is varied. Gesture drawing is a quick drawing responding to the model concerned with what they are doing or expressing rather than with what they look like.
Lately I have been doing my Stripes Series. I started after a clear out when I had old odd bits of sketches and ideas which otherwise would have been discarded. I also have a collection of precious bits, bags, wrappings and origami papers and fabrics which I have saved (been unable to throw away) from my travels.
Initially the stripes were about different papers and fabrics, then I realized they were a perfect way to record a journey or holiday, like a story board. I then started to make stripes of the area where I live. The town scape is changing so fast I felt the need to record what’s here now. During “lockdown 2020” the stripes bled into the spaces in between.
